Back to school fair planned in Bothell
A free Back to School Fair for students in the Northshore School District is set for 4 to 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at Canyon Park Middle School, 23723 23rd Ave. SE, Bothell.
There will be entertainment, free children’s identification cards and haircuts, food and drinks, kids activities and resources.

Candidate forum set in Edmonds
The Edmonds Neighborhood Action Coalition and the Sierra Club co-host a local candidate meet-and-greet, 2 to 5 p.m. Aug. 19 at the Edmonds Senior Center, 220 Railroad Ave. The public is invited. Candidates running for the Legislature and Snohomish County PUD commission have been invited. Light refreshments will be provided.

Charity golf tournament
Integrated Rehabilitation Group will hold a charity golf tournament and buffet awards banquet, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Aug. 24 at the Mill Creek Country Club. Proceeds will benefit the Imagine Children’s Museum and Camp Erin. Registration is $180, or $700 for a foursome. Sponsors also are welcome.

Pet adoption specials
Local animal shelters participate in a nationwide “Clear the Shelters” adoption event Saturday.
Purrfect Pals will reduce its adoption fee from $100 to $30 — in honor of the group’s 30th anniversary — on any adult cat 1 year or older. The Arlington-based nonprofit has a shelter at 230 McRae Road NE and also adopts cats out of Petsmart locations, including Everett and Lynnwood.
Homeward Pet Adoption Center, 13132 NE 177th Place in Woodinville, will waive the fee for adoptions of animals 3 years and older.

Dog wash aids shelter
CASA, the Camano Animal Shelter Association, holds its annual dog wash, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the shelter on the corner of Can Ku Road and East Camano Drive. The cost for a bath is $8 to $12, depending on the size of the dog. For an additional fee, pups can have a manicure. Nail clipping and dremel services are provided by professional groomers. Dogs go home with a souvenir bandanna.
All proceeds benefit CASA.

Lemonade for pediatric cancer research
Local dad James Serres will host an Alex’s Lemonade Stand at this weekend’s Fresh Paint art festival on the Everett waterfront. Sales will benefit the Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation, which funds research for pediatric cancer. The Serreses’ daughter, Violet, went through six months of cancer treatment at Seattle Children’s and is now in remission.
The stand will sell lemonade, slushies and other treats. Fresh Paint runs 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
