Chicken dinner time
A family chicken dinner is offered noon to 2 p.m. Sunday at the Stillaguamish Senior Center, 18308 Smokey Point Blvd., Arlington. Roasted chicken, mashed potatoes with gravy, coleslaw, vegetables, roll, drink and dessert for $9, $8 seniors, $5 children younger than 12. Proceeds benefit senior center programs and services. Enjoy live entertainment, too.

Self-defense for girls
A self-defense class for girls ages 11 to 18 will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Sept. 19 at the Stanwood Library, 9701 271st St. NW. Registration is required.

Preschool seashell program planned
Preschoolers can participate in a half-hour Little Science Lab to discover seashells with Imagine Children’s Museum staff, 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Lakewood-Smokey Point Library. For ages 3-5. Space is limited to the first 30 children.

Tutors needed at EvCC
Everett Community College’s Volunteer Literacy Program seeks volunteers who can tutor adults learning basic reading, writing and math skills and students learning English. An informal interview and a training workshop are required. The next training for new volunteers is Sept. 10.

Bedazzle a bra
Bling up bras that will be used as decorations for Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The crafty BraBedazzle event is open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Aug. 30 at Citrine Health’s Bra Shop, 2940 W Marine View Drive, Everett. Drop in any time. Supplies provided.

Assist cancer patients
The Cancer Resource Center at the Providence Regional Cancer Partnership seeks volunteers for weekly four-hour shifts meeting with cancer patients and caregivers to provide support. Drivers also are needed to get cancer patients to treatments and appointments. Volunteers use their own vehicles.

Help injured wildlife
PAWS Wildlife Center in Lynnwood seeks volunteers for a variety of roles. Help with wildlife care, keep the nature trail maintained, or hand-feed baby songbirds next spring, among other tasks. Donate eyeglasses, hearing aids
Lions Clubs collect used eyeglasses and hearing aids. Donations may be made at Everett Public Library branches, the PUD main office and at most opticians and eye doctors.
