Phoenix Theatre: 9673 Firdale Ave., Edmonds. Call 206-533-2000 or go to www.tptedmonds.org. Phoenix Theatre’s annual 24 Hour Theatre Festival is Aug. 24-25. Themed “Wonder Women,” six female playwrights and six female directors will have 24 hours to write and direct 10-minute plays. The selection process — the pick of actors, writers and directors — is 7 p.m. Aug. 24. Watch the madness for free. Six original plays will be performed at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 25. Tickets to the show are $20. The 2018-19 season includes “The Underpants,” “Twist of the Magi,” “Ripcord,” “Women in Jeopardy” — plus a comedy that has yet to be named. Season tickets, for all five performances, are $110 for adults, $98 for seniors, students and military.
Historic Everett Theatre: 2911 Colby Ave., Everett; 425-258-6766; www.historiceveretttheatre.org. “Farce of Habit,” showing through Aug. 26, is a funny Southern-fried romp at Reel ‘Em Inn, the finest little fishing lodge in the Ozarks. The proprietor is looking forward to a peaceful weekend at the lake — but take-no-prisoners lunacy by his family and guests makes the chance of that happening slim to none. Shows are 7:30 p.m. Thursdays, 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, and 3 p.m. Sundays. Tickets are $12.
Shakespeare in the Park: Free performance of “King Lear” by Last Leaf Productions at 4 p.m. Aug. 26, Eagle Ridge Park, 10020 Lundeen Parkway, Lake Stevens; www.lakestevenswa.gov. The Monroe-based traveling theater company performs two of the Bard’s plays each summer. This is the last show of the season. Play is one hour. Bring blankets and cushions for seating. Donations welcome.
Red Curtain: The Red Curtain Arts Center, 9315 State Ave., Suite J, Marysville (in the Goodwill shopping center, behind the Everett Community College cosmetology school); 360-322-7402; redcurtainfoundation.org. The Sesame Street-esque musical “Avenue Q” runs Sept. 7-23. What’s a puppet, fresh out of college, supposed to do with his life? Find out in this musical that won three Tony Awards. Not recommended for children. Shows are 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are $18 general and $15 students, seniors and military.
Edmonds Driftwood Players: Wade James Theatre, 950 Main St., Edmonds; www.edmondsdriftwoodplayers.org or 425-774-9600. The 2018-19 season kicks off with “Something’s Afoot,” running Sept. 14-30. The musical comedy takes a satirical jab at the Agatha Christie murder mystery. Ten people are stranded in an isolated English country estate during a raging thunderstorm. One by one, they are killed in mysterious (and hilarious) ways as they try to discover the murderer’s identity. Tickets are $28 general and $25 juniors, seniors, military.

The 2018-19 season includes “The Noteworthy Life of Howard Barnes,”“Matilda The Musical,”“I Do! I Do!,”“The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time” and “Million Dollar Quartet.” Season tickets, for all five shows, is $305 general, $285 seniors and $235 youth.
COMEDY
Tony V’s Garage: Monday Night Comedy is a weekly comedy showcase and open mic at the garage, 1716 Hewitt Ave., Everett. Features regional comedians working out their longer sets and local amateurs trying new material. Next showcase is Aug. 27. No cover. Sign up at 7:30 p.m.; show is at 8 p.m.
Tim Noah’s Thumbnail Theater: The Thumb hosts Crackpot Comedy Cavalcade 7:30 p.m. Sept. 8 at the theater, 1211 Fourth St., Snohomish. This family-friendly sketch and improvisational comedy is titled “The Evolution of a Comedy Troupe.” Doors open at 7 p.m. Admission is $10 for adults, $5 for children. Orange is the New Barack: Musical and political comedy meet in this Capitol Steps show at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 1 at the Edmonds Center for the Arts, 410 Fourth Ave. N., Edmonds. The group of former U.S. Senate staffers satirize the very people and places that employed them. All Hallow’s Eve: BodyVox will perform a Halloween-themed show at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 27 at the Edmonds Center for the Arts, 410 Fourth Ave. N., Edmonds.
