Operatic circus aboard a tall ship
“Nomadic Tempest” is a tale about monarch butterflies affected by climate change. The rock opera, incorporating video graphics and aerialists, is performed by Caravan Stage Company aboard the tall ship Amara Zee, 9 p.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday (weather permitting), with viewing from Everett’s Boxcar Park, 1200 Millwright Loop W.
Admission is by donation. Tickets are required.

Doodle animals at library
Adults are invited to doodle a Zentangle Zoo, 2 to 4 p.m. Sept. 6 at the Evergreen Branch Library, 9512 Evergreen Way, Everett. Registration is required. Children age 12 and older can accompany a participating adult.

Hero’s Cafe serves up cookies and lunch
Hero’s Café, a free social gathering for veterans, meets next from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Tuesday (and every fourth Tuesday, except December) at Verdant Health and Wellness Community Center, 4710 196th St. SW, Lynnwood. Baker’s Angels will serve cookies and coffee, with lunch at 11 a.m.
The program is a partnership between local veterans groups and the city of Lynnwood. A service officer is typically available for those seeking benefits information.

Metro Everett plan
The Everett City Council is expected to take action on the Metro Everett plan Wednesday night. Included in the draft of the plan are rezones in areas downtown and reductions of parking requirements for some new developments throughout the city. A public comment period will be held during the meeting.

Ribbon cutting for Salem Woods
A ribbon cutting ceremony and meet-your-teacher social are planned for 5:30 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the newly renovated Salem Woods Elementary School, 12802 Wagner Road, Monroe. Four of the campus’ five classroom buildings were replaced with a new two-story school building as part of the $22.7 million project.

Arts Commission opening available
The Snohomish County Arts Commission seeks one or two commissioners to represent District 3, which includes Edmonds, Woodway and parts of Lynnwood. Monthly meetings are held at 6 p.m. third Mondays at Gro Washington, 3013 Colby Ave., Everett. A committee assignment also is expected.
County residents who have relevant experience or skills in visual, written or performing arts are encouraged to apply. No experience is required. Prospective applicants are encouraged to attend a commission meeting before completing an application.
