Service changes for Labor Day
Local transit services will operate on Sunday schedules for the Labor Day holiday Monday. Commuter routes to Seattle will not run.
Waste haulers will pick up garbage, recyclables and yard waste as usual. That includes Rubatino Refuse Removal, Republic Services and Waste Management.
Block party for labor
The Snohomish County Labor Council plans a Labor Day march and block party. The march is set to start at 11 a.m. at Wetmore and Hewitt avenues, by the Workers Memorial. Participants should get there a half-hour early.
The march will follow Wetmore to California Street and to the Everett Labor Temple. The block party runs until 3:30 p.m. with live music, free food and a children’s area.

Groups for retirees
There are a variety of groups for local retirees. Here are a few:
Everett area: A Brown Bag Senior Lunch Series is held 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. second Thursdays through May at the Everett Public Library, 2702 Hoyt Ave. The Sept. 13 speaker is retired Snohomish County Superior Court Judge Richard Okrent, who will give a show-and-tell about his and his wife’s recent vacation to Greece. State and Local, Everett: The Retired Public Employees Council of Washington Chapter 6 (Everett area) meets 1 p.m. first Tuesdays (September to June) at the Carl Gipson Senior Center of Everett, 3025 Lombard Ave. At the Sept. 4 meeting, Snohomish County elections and recording manager Garth Fell will speak. Have Irish roots?
The next Stillaguamish Valley Genealogical Society monthly meeting will discuss “Researching Your Irish Roots,” 1 p.m. Sept. 11 at the group’s research library, 6111 188th Place NE, Arlington. Professional genealogist Eva Doherty Gremment specializes in Irish research and has extensive experience in the United States, Germany, United Kingdom and the Ukraine.

What’s Mom’s maiden name?
Sno-Isle Genealogical Society kicks off its regular meetings at 7 p.m. Wednesday with genealogist Mary Roddy speaking on “I Remember Mama but not her Maiden Name.” Meetings are held in the LDS Family History Library, 22015 48th Ave. W, Mountlake Terrace.
