The genius between worlds: Naturalist Kem Luther will be discussing his book “Boundary Layer: Exploring the Genius Between Worlds,” at the Snohomish County Mycological Society’s meeting at 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 14. The meeting will be at the Baker Community Center, 1401 Poplar St., Everett. A boundary layer is the band of air nearest the ground. In the Pacific Northwest, the boundary layer teems with lichens, mosses, ferns, fungi, and diminutive plants.
Beyond A Bare Naked Garden: Trevor Cameron, president of the Evergreen Arboretum and Gardens in Everett, will explain how to create winter interest in your garden when all the leaves have fallen and the branches are bare. The event is from noon to 1 p.m. Nov. 17. Free to members and $10 for non-members. Join online or the day of class. RSVP is required. Meet in the arboretum portable. Create holiday greens: The November meeting of the Mukilteo Way Garden Club will feature Jennifer Carlson, who will demonstrate how to create holiday greens at the Mukilteo Presbyterian Church, 4514 84th St. SW, Mukilteo. Assistance League’s Holiday Home Tour: See north Everett homes decorated for the holidays on this self-guided tour from 1 to 7 p.m. Dec. 3. Features tastings from local chefs, carolers, raffle baskets, a pop-up gift shop and photos with Santa. Advance tickets are $30 or $35 on tour day. Holiday workshops: Bring your holiday spirit and creativity to this two-hour workshop from 10 a.m. to noon or 1 to 3 p.m. Dec. 8, and go home with several gifts for the holidays. Projects are appropriate for children ages 6-10. This is a parent/child workshop that parents attend with their child. Meet in Legion Hall in Legion Memorial Park, 145 Alverson Blvd., Everett. Each session is limited to 15 kids and parents. Free to Everett Arboretum & Gardens members, $10 for non-members. Join online or the day of class. RSVP required.

Become a master: Master gardener training classes start in January. Research, educate, mentor and answer horticulture questions for the public in a collaborative environment. All training is open book and no memorization is expected. Training involves about 80 hours of classroom and workshop instruction held once a week on Thursdays through March. Tuition is $275, plus a volunteer commitment of 40 hours each year for two years on a variety of horticultural and environmental educational projects.
