Winter walk: Friends of Camano Island Parks is leading a community walk at Elger Bay Preserve from 9:50 a.m. to noon Dec. 1 at Elger Bay Preserve Trail on Camano Island. The 2.5-mile walk is fairly level with a slight elevation gain halfway through. It will take place rain or shine. Wear appropriate clothes and sturdy shoes. No dogs. Northwest Stream Center: Through December, the Adopt A Stream Foundation is offering free admission to the Northwest Stream Center at McCollum Park, 600 128th St. SE, Everett. Enjoy a half-mile nature walk on an elevated trail through forest and wetlands. Hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Thursday through Sunday. Call 425-316-8592 to make a reservation. Free park-ing: The next day to visit Washington State Parks without an entrance fee is on New Year’s Day, Dec. 1. Other free days are Jan. 15 (Martin Luther King Jr. Day), March 19 (State Park’s birthday), April 14 (Spring Day), April 22 (Earth Day), June 2 (National Trails Day), June 9 (National Get Outdoors Day), June 10 (Fishing Day) and Aug. 25 (National Park Service’s birthday). Sno-Park permits: Attention snow enthusiasts: Washington State Parks Winter Recreation Program’s Sno-Park permits are available for purchase online and at various vendors statewide through April 30. The permits allow visitors to park in cleared, designated parking lots with access to areas around the state for skiing, skijoring, snowmobiling, dog sledding, snowshoeing, tubing and other winter fun. STAY IN

Splitboard 101: A free “Splitboard 101” class with outdoor sports store Weston Backcountry is at 6 p.m. Dec. 4 at Alderwood REI, 3000 184th St. SW, Lynnwood. Splitboards are snowboards that can be separated into ski-like parts for climbing slopes and connected for descent, and most used in the backcountry. Experts from Weston Backcountry will share tips on which splitboard to choose, how to plan your first backcountry trip and provide avalanche education. Space is limited. More at www.rei.com.

Great Himalaya Trail: World traveler Vince Gayman will give a presentation on his hike along the Nepal’s Great Himalaya Trail at 6 p.m. Dec. 6 at Alderwood REI, 3000 18th St. SW, Lynnwood. Free. At more than 1,000 miles long, the GHT is one of the longest, highest and most challenging trails to hike on Earth. Space is limited. More at www.rei.com.

A walk to the world’s edge: Marysville’s Outdoor Adventure Speaker Series continues at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 8 with Beth Jusino’s presentation on “Walking to the End of the World.” An award-winning local author, Jusino will talk about her journey along the Camino de Santiago Trail. Also known as the Way of Saint James, it’s a 500-mile-long trail in Spain that leads to the shrine of the apostle St. James the Great. Entry is $5 at the door. Call 360-363-8400.
