LAKE STEVENS — A woman who died in a crash near Lake Stevens was identified Thursday.
Maria C. Diaz Haupo, 73, was a passenger in a Toyota Yaris that was rear-ended by a van around 2 p.m. New Year’s Eve on 84th Street NE.
The impact pushed the Toyota into an oncoming Acura SUV.
Diaz Haupo died after arriving at a hospital, according to the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office. Earlier sheriff’s office reports listed her age as 72.
The aftermath of the crash was still being investigated Thursday.
The van driver, 43, who was suspected of causing the initial collision, stayed at the scene, according to the sheriff’s office. However, the suspected Acura driver, 28, was wanted on warrants. He fled.
Security footage showed he was dropped off at a hospital by someone in a blue Chrysler 300 with chrome wheels.
Detectives hope to track down any occupants of the Chrysler, to interview them.
