MEETING
Finishing Highway 522
A public meeting Wednesday will give residents a chance to learn the latest on efforts to redo the Paradise Lake Road interchange and widen Highway 522 from the intersection to the Snohomish Bridge. A new coalition, Finish 522, is hosting. It begins at 6:30 p.m. in the council chambers of Monroe City Hall, 806 West Main St.

Lead a STEM workshop
Edmonds Community College seeks presenters for its Expanding Your Horizons conference for girls in grades 8-12. The conference, to be held March 19, helps girls explore careers in science, technology, engineering and math. More than 450 girls are expected to attend.
Women who work in a STEM field, or who are majoring in a STEM field at the university level, are invited to design and lead a 35-minute, interactive workshop. Presenters will each have three timeslots during the conference.

Help wildlife on Camano
Friends of Camano Island Parks’ Camano Wildlife Habitat Project trains volunteers through the Habitat Stewards program. Volunteers help create, preserve, enhance and restore wildlife habitat on Camano Island.
The next training program will be held 6 to 8:30 p.m. Jan. 16, Feb. 20, March 20, April 17, May 15 and June 19 at the Island County Multipurpose Center, 141 N East Camano Drive. There also are five field trips, 9:30 a.m. to noon Jan. 19, Feb. 23, March 23, April 20 and May 18.
Training is offered by donation of time or money to the Habitat Project. Registration required.

Boating courses in Everett
The nonprofit Everett Sail and Power Squadron offers boating classes to the public. Coming up:
“America’s Boating Course,” 6:30-8:30 p.m. Mondays for seven weeks, starting Feb. 11, at the Everett Community College Corporate and Continuing Education Center, 2333 Seaway Blvd., Everett. Cost is $120. After a final test, students qualify for the state boater education card. Register at everettcc.edu/ccec.
“Propane Systems,” 6:30-8:30 p.m. Feb. 12 at Snohomish County PUD, 2320 California St., Everett. Learn how to safely use propane on your boat for cooking and heating. Developed by a boater whose boat was destroyed in an explosion and fire. Cost is $30 in advance, $35 at the door.
