Naval station drills
Naval stations in the region, including at Everett and Whidbey Island, may be closed intermittently between Feb. 4 to 15. That’s because of an annual drill to practice what to do in a terrorist attack.
People who are close may hear emergency sirens and small explosions. They also may see smoke coming from base and ships moving into and away from the docks more than usual.
The exercise is designed to strengthen coordination between multiple naval stations.
Street closure at Port
A temporary closure of 13th Street in Everett is planned from Wednesday through Feb. 1. A contractor needs to do underground work as part of the SE Millwright Loop project. Drivers still can access the parking lots on the southeast side of Waterfront Center (across from the new 142-room Hotel Indigo that’s under construction.)
The hotel is a major part of the Port of Everett’s multimillion-dollar waterfront makeover. The redevelopment’s first phase is called the Fisherman’s Harbor District. Apartments, hotels, restaurants and shops are envisioned in an area once occupied by the boating and maritime industries. The hotel is expected to open later this year.
