HEADS UP
Fire Station 2 to close for remodeling
On March 1, the station, at 2202 16th Street, will temporarily close and the fire units will be relocated to a building on Oakes Avenue. While the building is shut, crews will be removing asbestos and doing other maintenance work. The closure is expected to last about a month and a half.
EVENTS
State of Mukilteo speech
Mukilteo Mayor Jennifer Gregerson will deliver her 2019 State of the City address at 2 p.m. Feb. 9 at Mukilteo City Hall, 11930 Cyrus Way. This is her fifth State of the City speech. She has been mayor since 2014.
Gregerson will discuss her priorities for 2019. Refreshments will be served.

Blackmans Lake news
The Friends of Blackmans Lake committee has its first-ever meeting from 6 to 9 p.m. on Feb. 11, at the Snohomish fire station, 1506 Avenue D. The group has been testing the lake’s water and plans to announce the results. All are welcome. The lake covers 63 acres, and state records show past pollution.
Road celebration
The Arlington Valley Road ribbon cutting is set for 2 p.m. Feb. 22 at 6800 191st Place NE.
Arlington Valley Road is to be a new route linking 74th Avenue NE to 191 Place NE, just west of Highway 9. It would be another option for businesses along busy 67th Avenue to reach the highway.
The project was funded by the Washington State Community Economic Revitalization Board and the Washington State Transportation Improvement Board.

Garden money
The Monroe Garden Club is giving a $1,000 scholarship to a student pursuing a career in some aspect of horticulture at an accredited college or trade school. Studies may include forestry, botany, landscaping, earth sciences, floral design, etc. Applicants must reside in or within approximately 20 miles of Monroe. Deadline to apply is April 1.

Make blankets for kids
The Binky Patrol, a group of quilters, knitters and crocheters who make “binkies” for youth in traumatic situations, as well as quilts and blankets for senior citizens, seeks volunteers and donations of fabric, yarn or thread. The group meets first Sunday, second Sunday if a holiday, in Marysville.

Project Linus also makes quilts and blankets to donate to Snohomish County kids who have experienced traumatic life events. The next Project Linus event is set for 12:30-2:30 p.m. Feb. 12 (second Tuesday) at the Carl Gipson Senior Center of Everett, 3025 Lombard Ave. Materials and equipment are provided. Bring a sewing machine if you have one.
