Cop a coffee

The Mukilteo Police Department will host “Coffee with a Cop” from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Starbucks Coffee at 10100 Mukilteo Speedway. Discuss local issues, build relationships and drink coffee. Free.

Book release

Everett author Richard Porter is releasing his new art book, “The Spar Tree,” at Narrative Coffee in downtown Everett. The event includes readings and music and is set for 2 to 3:30 p.m. March 23.

Prep for emergencies

The city of Mill Creek is hosting workshops on how to develop family and neighborhood emergency plans. Upcoming dates are May 21, Aug. 20 and Nov. 27.

Sleep help

Get the sleep you deserve. Join psychologist Diane Gillespie, author of “Stories for Going Back to Sleep,” who helps craft scenarios designed to help people fall asleep after having wakened in the night. Stop by the Main Library in Everett from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Saturday.

Sky Valley recognition

This year’s Sky Valley Community Awards event has been rescheduled because of the snow. The ceremony will begin at 5:30 p.m. Saturday at Sultan High School.

Those who have made an impact in the area may receive recognition. All Sky Valley residents are invited. Awards are handed out after a potluck dinner.

OPPORTUNITY

Art contest

The Mukilteo Art Contest encourages youth to explore their artistic talents. Students K-12 from the Seattle area can enter the contest and win up to $100. A dozen winners will be chosen, three from each category: Junior: K-4, non-photographic. Intermediate: grades 5-8, non-photographic. High school: non-photographic. Digital: all ages, photographic. Deadline is Thursday.

Help for caregivers

Several local support groups exist for caregivers, to help those dealing with the challenges of unpaid caregiving. Here are some of them:

The Alzheimer’s Association keeps a list of local support groups. Groups for caregivers are available in Arlington, Bothell, Edmonds, Everett, Lynnwood and Snohomish.

MEETINGS

The Mountlake Terrace City Council will meet for a work session at 7 p.m. Thursday. Additional meetings are set for March 4 and March 18.

The Mukilteo City Council retreat is set for 9 a.m. Saturday at the Rosehill Community Center, Christiansen Room.
