Go outside to play
The next two “free days” to visit Washington State Parks without a Discover Pass are Saturday and Earth Day on Monday. Local state parks include Cama Beach on Camano Island, Wallace Falls near Gold Bar and Saint Edward near Kenmore.

Guided tree tour
Green Snohomish is offering two tours at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. May 4. The two-hour guided walks take participants through the heritage trees in Snohomish’s historic district. There is no charge to participate, though a $5 donation is suggested. Coffee will be donated by Looking Glass Coffee. The event is suitable for all fitness levels. Meet at Looking Glass Coffee Shop, 801 First St., in downtown Snohomish. Tour sign-up will begin at 10:30 a.m.

Workers’ memorial
An event is planned Wednesday to remember people who died on the job or from a work-related injury or illness. The Workers’ Memorial Observance will take place in the Mission Building courtyard from 5 to 5:45 p.m. The location is on Wetmore Avenue between Wall Street and Pacific Avenue, next to the Snohomish County Courthouse. The Snohomish & Island County Labor Council is hosting the memorial, and some elected leaders are expected to attend.

Growth study
Snohomish County’s planning department has launched an online survey to gather input about quality of life and desired improvements in the Southwest Urban Growth Area. The high-level study will inform future planning decisions. It is to remain online until April 26. The study area includes lands zoned for rural uses extending eastward to Broadway Avenue, north to Cathcart and south to the county line. It includes the Maltby Urban Growth Area. Development hearing
The city of Everett is holding a public hearing at 6:30 p.m. May 1, on amendments to the master plan proposed for the Riverfront development Landfill site. The hearing will take place in city council chambers at 3002 Wetmore Ave. The developer wants to add 1,250 housing units to the site, along with 230,000 square feet of retail space, 125,000 square feet of office space and a 250-room hotel.

Fly fishers meeting
The Olympic Fly Fishers will meet at 6 p.m. May 14, at the Mountlake Terrace Community Senior Center, 23000 Lakeview Dr. Dinner will be followed by a presentation from an Edmonds-Woodway High School club, Students Saving Salmon, then a brief meeting and a raffle. No entrance fee but dinner costs $20.
