Arlington photography contest

The Arlington Arts Council is sponsoring a photography contest for residents of the Stillaguamish Valley or those with a council membership. This year’s theme is “Trees of the Valley.”

Photographers can enter up to three photographs on the council’s online portal. A committee will vote and award prizes: first place $100, second place $75, and third place $50, plus three honorable mentions at $25 each. The winning photos will be displayed at the annual Art in Legion Park event in September and on the council’s Facebook page. The contest runs through July 26.

EVENTS

Lynnwood unveils trail plaza

Lynnwood city officials and others plan to gather at 11 a.m. Monday to celebrate a new plaza along the Interurban Trail at 40th Avenue West. The space features picnic tables, a workout station and edible plants, plus a kiosk and a bicycle service station.

The ribbon-cutting will include a tree planting in honor of Arbor Day and Earth Day.

Earth week

Everett Community College is celebrating Earth Week with different events Monday through Thursday.

Plants will be available for free, to buy and to trade from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday in Whitehorse Hall at 2000 Tower St. Ciscoe Morris of TV show “Gardening With Ciscoe” is set to give a presentation at noon.

Fix bikes

Volunteers are needed to fix children’s bikes at Sharing Wheels Community Bike Shop, 6 to 9 p.m. Thursdays through June 6, at 2531 Broadway.

Snacks are provided. Kids old enough to help are welcome with adult supervision. The work parties prepare for the shop’s annual Kids Bike Swap on June 9.

Free boat skills mini-clinics

America’s Boating Club of Snohomish County and local Sea Scouts will hold their second annual Boat Skills Festival and Clinics from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, May 4, on the guest docks north of the Port of Everett’s Box Car Park.

There will be 20-plus clinics by experienced club members, Scouts and guests on topics such as handling emergencies on board, anchoring, crabbing and cooking on board.

Star Wars party

The Mukilteo Library, 4675 Harbour Pointe Blvd., is hosting a Star Wars party from 2 to 4 p.m. May 4, which has become known as an unofficial holiday: May the Fourth Be With You.

All are invited to this free, family-friendly event with games and crafts. Everyone is encouraged to wear a costume.
