Talk about historic maps

The University of Washington’s Osher Lifelong Learning Institute has planned a free lecture Tuesday at the Rosehill Community Center in Mukilteo.

“Cities From a Bird’s Eye View” is scheduled from noon to 1 p.m. The address is 304 Lincoln Ave., Mukilteo.

The speaker, Anne Jenner, is a curator in special collections at the University of Washington Libraries in Seattle, where she is responsible for the flagship Pacific Northwest Collection. Maps commonly called bird’s-eye-views inspired popular interest during the population boom of Pacific Northwest cities from 1870 to 1910. The UW holds dozens of these colorful and intricately illustrated maps, many depicting ports, towns and cities in the early years of European settlement.
