Learn about wildfire risks
There are two chances this week to learn about wildfires, how to prevent them and what to do if one hits close to home for people living in northcentral Snohomish County. Open houses are set for 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Oso Fire Station 37 and from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at Darrington Fire Station 39.
Area agencies, including the fire districts, Snohomish County Department of Emergency Management, U.S. Forest Service, the Sauk-Suiattle Tribe and the state Department of Natural Resources worked together to come up with a Community Wildfire Protection Plan that, among other things, outlines steps people can take given the growing threat of wildfires. There will be opportunities for questions and to give feedback, as well as a chance to check out fire engines, tenders and brush trucks.
Auction for mental health awareness
Join in on a silent auction from 5 to 8 p.m., July 6 at Josh’s Taps and Caps, 1800 Bickford Ave. Suite 210, Snohomish.
All proceeds go to a local nonprofit called Bigger Than Us that helps raise money to pay for therapy for those with post traumatic stress disorder. The organization was started by two Marysville police officers and best friends, Chris Sutherland and Jeremy Wood, who have shared their own experiences with PTSD.
