Fireworks annoying you? Don’t call 911
Is your neighbor lighting off bottle rockets even though there’s a ban on fireworks in your town? Is that Fourth of July party getting a little too raucous?
Don’t dial 911 for your noise or illegal fireworks complaints; dial the non-emergency line at 425-407-3999.
The holiday is typically the busiest time of year for Snohomish County 911, and the agency is doing its best to staff appropriately. Executive Director Kurt Mills hopes people will use the emergency line only for real emergencies.
“Help us keep 911 lines open for emergencies,” Mills said. “While it is the same dispatchers processing both non-emergency calls and 911 emergencies, we are able to triage calls more effectively by dealing with true emergencies on 911.”
To help expedite the process, callers should keep answers brief and have the incident location handy.
OPPORTUNITY
Acting auditions
Audition will be held for five different productions from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Aug. 6 and 7, at the Whidbey Island Center for the Arts, 565 Camano Ave., Langley. Each audition lasts five minutes. Walk-ins are welcome if time permits.
Tryouts are for the center’s 2019-2020 season, with performances starting in October. The plays include “It’s A Wonderful Life” and “Red.” To audition, bring a copy of a headshot and a resume, and prepare a maximum of 32 bars and one monologue, or two contrasting monologues.

Mountain cleanup
Volunteer to remove trash from the slopes of Stevens Pass. Register by July 28. The cleanup event is from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 7 at the base area of Stevens Pass Mountain Resort on Highway 2.
Participants will ride the ski lift to reach different parts of the mountain, and prizes go to those who find the most unique pieces of trash. Bring appropriate gear, such as hiking boots, rain gear and bug repellent. Lunch is provided.

Edmonds concerts in the park
Three performances in five days commence the Edmonds Arts Commission’s free summer concert series.
Ranger and the “Re-Arrangers,” a Gyspsy Jazz band, will be at City Park, Third Avenue S. and Pine Street., on Sunday, July 14 from 3 to 4 p.m. The Miho & Diego Duo will deliver sounds of Japan and Latin America at Hazel Miller Plaza, Fifth Avenue S. and Maple Street, 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. July 16. On July 18, 20/20 A Capella will perform at Hazel Miller Plaza from 5 to 6:30 p.m.
The concert series will continue on Sundays, Tuesdays and Thursdays through Aug. 25.
