Pedestrian killed by Marysville ambulance identified

MARYSVILLE — A pedestrian who was struck and killed by an ambulance early Saturday morning has been identified.

Wayne D. St. John, 55, of Bellingham, was walking on Highway 529 over Steamboat Slough when he was hit by a Marysville Fire District ambulance going northbound. The ambulance had been returning from an Everett hospital.

Witnesses said they saw St. John walking in the southbound inside lane of the highway, wearing dark clothing.

Two firefighters in the ambulance administered aid to the man and were assisted by Everett Fire Department paramedics. The man died at the scene from multiple blunt force injuries, according to the Snohomish County Medical Examiner’s Office.

The firefighters involved were placed on administrative leave.

The Marysville Police Department is investigating the crash. Witnesses are asked to contact Marysville police at 360-363-8300.
