Dinner and a movie for military families
Active military are invited to apply for the USO Northwest Military Seats of Honor program. The prize is a paid dinner in Everett, a $25 Funko gift certificate and two tickets to a show at the Historic Everett Theatre.
Anyone in the military and their dependents are encouraged to apply. Please limit requests to one per person. Recipients are chosen at random and will need to show military ID to claim tickets at the box office. Winners will be notified by phone and email.

MEETINGS
The Snohomish Garden Club hosts Joseph Abken, executive director of the Kruckeberg Botanic Garden in Shoreline, as its speaker for its next regular monthly meeting at 7 p.m. Monday at the Snohomish Senior Center, 506 Fourth St.
Abken’s talk will cover the history and origin of the Kruckeberg Botanic Garden, its evolution to a public space and its promising future. The mission of the Snohomish Garden Club is to stimulate knowledge and love of gardening, to aid in the protection of native trees, plants and birds, and to encourage civic planting. Meetings are on the second Monday of the month from September through May, except December.

What? Pumpkin time already?
The Schack-toberfest pumpkin patch is from Sept. 12 to 19 at Schack Art Center, 2921 Hoyt Ave., Everett.
The urban patch is filled with more than 900 glass pumpkins and harvest-themed art and gifts. There will be art activities for kids from 1 to 4 p.m. Sundays.
Stop by the Schack’s mezzanine gallery to bid on original artwork by more than 40 local artists.
The silent auction kicks off Sept. 12. The bidding ends during Pints & Pumpkins from 6 to 9 p.m. Sept. 19.

Celebration for kids
Children’s Day takes over the South Whidbey Community Center from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 14.
Billed as “the biggest, friendliest, familiest event on Whidbey Island,” the event has bounce houses, pony rides, entertainment, interactive booths and a free lunch.
Everything is free.
The community center is at 723 Camano Ave. in Langley.

Salmon festival
Pink Salmon return to the Sultan River this year. Celebrate Return of the Salmon from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 28, at Osprey Park, 713 First St., Sultan.
Ride a horse-drawn wagon from the park to the High School Hatchery, where each child will get a small salmon to release into the river. Pink salmon only run in odd number years, so a large group is expected to return this fall. Learn about the river, the fish and how to protect them at this free event.
