One of the area’s most popular auto races is returning to Evergreen Speedway.

The racetrack announced this week that it will hold the NASCAR Galloway Shootout on Saturday, June 26. The annual race was canceled last year due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The race is a tribute to Mark Galloway, a 2006 Monroe High School graduate who worked as a crew chief and technical inspector at the speedway before tragically dying at the age of 20 in a car accident.

The event will feature a pair of 75-lap shootouts for the Super Late Model and Pro Late Model classes on the track’s 5/8-mile oval. It will be the first time since 2019 that a race has been held on the 5/8-mile track.

The event will also include Mini Stocks, Legends, Street Stocks and Vintage Mods.

Evergreen Speedway is planning for limited fan attendance at the race. Tickets are available now at evergreenspeedway.com.

Reynolds honored again at UW

For the second time this year, Snohomish High School graduate and UW standout Sami Reynolds was named the Pac-12 Player of the Week for her efforts on the softball field.

Last week, Reynolds hit .556 and slugged home runs in all three games against the No. 4 Oregon Ducks. Reynolds now has a career-high 10 home runs on the season.

Reynolds is the first Husky to earn multiple Pac-12 Player of the Week awards in the same season since Julia DePonte and Kirstyn Thomas both earned it twice in 2018.

Jerome recognized at Eastern Washington

After totalling 36 tackles and three sacks on the season for Eastern Washington, Monroe High School graduate Josh Jerome was named an All-Big-Sky honorable mention this week.

The redshirt sophomore totaled 5.5 tackles for loss and also had a fumble recovery in six games.

Eastern Washington (5-1) is set to face North Dakota State (6-2) in the first round of the FCS Playoffs at 12:30 p.m. PDT on Saturday.
