EVERETT — The Eugene Emeralds scored five runs in the top of the fifth inning off rehabbing Seattle Mariners reliever Ken Giles to break open a close game and cruised to an 8-2 win over the Everett AquaSox on Wednesday evening at Funko Field.

Giles, making his first appearance in an AquaSox uniform, allowed four hits, including a three-run home run to Carter Aldrete, in two-thirds of an inning. Only one of the five total runs charged to Giles was earned due to an error in the inning from shortstop Noelvi Marte.

Prelander Berroa started for Everett (20-26) against his former team and allowed one run on three hits in four solid innings. Berroa, who was acquired by the Mariners organization from the San Francisco Giants on May 11, walked four and struck out six.

Dariel Gomez hit his ninth home run of the season and Andy Thomas had a run-scoring single for the AquaSox offense.

Marco Luciano went 3-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored for Eugene (23-19).
