Vote for The Herald’s Prep Athlete of the Week for Sept. 15-21

The Athlete of the Week nominees for for Sept. 15-21. Voting closes at midnight Sunday. The winner will be announced with the next poll and in next Tuesday’s paper.

Last week’s winner

Melissa Hadley | Arlington | Volleyball

On Sept. 9, Hadley registered 22 kill in a Arlington’s 3-1 triumph over Meadowdale. Two days later, she led the Eagles over Stanwood with 20 kills and three aces. Hadley won The Herald’s Athlete of the Week for Sept. 8-14 by claiming 536 (40.58%) of the 1,321 votes.

This week’s nominees

Teuila Halalilo | Archbishop Murphy | Volleyball

The sophomore registered 14 kills and 16 assists to lead the Wildcats three games to one over Marysville Pilchuck.

Harper Neyens | Stanwood | Volleyball

The sophomore outside hitter compiled 18 kills, 16 digs, four aces and one block as the Spartans knocked off previously unbeaten and fourth-ranked Lynnwood, 3-2, in a nonconference match.

Julia Song | Jackson | Swimming

Song won the 50- and 200-yard freestyle events and helped the Timberwolves win the 200 medley relay and the 200 freestyle relay in a 127-58 lapping of Shorewood.

Noelani Tupua | Lake Stevens | Soccer

The sophomore forward-midfielder scored all four goals in a 4-1 victory over Glacier Peak on Tuesday, and then scored the Vikings’ lone goal in Thursday’s 1-1 draw with 2023 Class 3A state tournament runner up Shorecrest. Tupua has 10 goals in four games this season.
