LYNNWOOD — Longtime Lynnwood High School history teacher Vic Bennet died Nov. 8 of leukemia.
Bennet had taught in the Edmonds School District for 40 years, the last 24 at Lynnwood High. He had earlier taught at Edmonds-Woodway and Mountlake Terrace high schools.
He continued to teach until a few weeks before his death.
Bennet graduated from Shoreline High School in 1962 and from Washington State University in 1966, and he held master’s and doctoral degrees from the University of Washington.
At the University of Washington, Bennet wrote a dissertation that involved translating German wartime cables. He once admitted that, while he could read German well enough for academic work, he felt he couldn’t converse in the language.
Vic Bennet was a star runner of half-mile, mile and cross-country events at Shoreline High and Washington State. He ran with the Snohomish Track Club. He then continued to run recreationally.
He also coached cross country and track at Shoreline Community College, Everett Community College, Edmonds High School and Lynnwood High School.
