WSJ: Boeing 787, 747-8 get wider air space

The Boeing Co.’s new jets will need extra distance from other aircraft in flight based on an interim decision by federal regulators.

The Federal Aviation Administration has set an interim policy that other aircraft will need to stay 10 miles away from Boeing’s 787 and 747-8 while those aircraft are descending — twice the distance required for Boeings’ 747-400, according to WSJ report.

The FAA will also require other aircraft to stay five miles behind the 787 and 747-8 during flight, as compared to the usual three mile distance.
