Southwest considers ordering bigger 737s

Southwest Airlines may order larger 737s for its busiest routes — a decision the carrier plans to make by Dec. 1.

Southwest, which had 544 Boeing 737s at the end of June, would be able to seat 175 passengers on a 737-800, compared to the 137 passengers the carrier’s 737-700s seat.

The larger 737s would replace older ones, not result in a net increase in Southwest’s fleet size.
