North option wins Dick’s Drive-In poll

Woo hoo, bring on the Deluxe!
It’s not official yet, but it appears the newest Dick’s Drive-In will be built somewhere north of Seattle.
The iconic Seattle restaurant decided to let its customers decide where to build its next drive-in — the first in 36 years.
Dick’s officials launched an online poll late last month.
Boy, did people respond.
As of 10 p.m. Sunday night, the time the poll was supposed to close, the Dick’s website showed the north option firmly in the lead with 45 percent of 115,521 votes cast.
The two other options south and east nearly split the remaining votes.
The company plans to send out official results this morning, said Jim Spady, the son of Dick’s co-founder Dick Spady.
“After that we’ll focus our efforts at finding a good parcel of real estate in the direction that wins the customer poll,” he said Friday.
The company also released the results of a 20-second video contest that let Dick’s most fanatic fans make their own pitches.
The winner, posted on Dick’s Facebook page, made a pitch for Everett by arguing that it would reduce traffic on I-5 because thousands of people wouldn’t be driving to Seattle for hamburgers.
Spady said the restaurant hopes to open the new drive-in by late 2011.
