ARLINGTON — The city plans to launch a new website in January that will feature photographs of Arlington taken by the people who know it best.

Anybody who lives in Arlington is invited to participate in the Arlington — Through My Lens digital photo contest, being run by city staff as a way to get people involved in producing pictures for the website.

“The photos will be used to show off Arlington and showcase the talents of our resident photographers,” city spokeswoman Kristin Banfield said. “It’s just another way people can volunteer to help their city.”

The photos, which must be taken in the 98223 ZIP code area, will help promote Arlington on the website, as well as in newsletters, recreation guides, brochures and other marketing material produced by the city.

Open to photographers of all ages and skill levels, the contest has a youth division and an adult division. There is no cost to enter, and participants may submit two photos per category.

Categories include people, pets, places, nature, architecture, art and events.

The entry deadline is Dec. 15.

To enter, photographers can download an entry form from www.arlingtonwa.gov.

Winners will be announced Jan. 12 and will receive certificates and recognition by the City Council.

Photos must be unaltered, not previously published and suitable for use by the city. The preferred digital format is a jpeg. No camera phone photos will be considered. Photos must be submitted on a labeled disc with the photographer’s entry form, which includes a signed release statement allowing for use of the pictures.
