Arlington: Sale aids genealogical society
The Stillaguamish Valley Genealogical Society of Arlington has scheduled its annual garage sale for 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday at 27230 Highway 9, just north of the Bryant Store.
More than a quarter acre of furniture, toys, kitchen goodies, bedding, outdoor items and more are for sale. Proceeds help cover the rent on the society’s genealogical library.

Kids’ Kloset needs school supplies
Arlington Kids’ Kloset has donation sites set up for its back-to-school drive at three locations in Smokey Point and downtown Arlington.
The nonprofit agency needs backpacks and supplies for children who qualify for free and reduced-price lunch in the Arlington, Lakewood and Darrington school districts.
New backpacks and school supplies, or money to purchase these items, can be donated at Dr. Keith Leonard’s office, 17432 Smokey Point Blvd.; Julie’s Barber and Styling, 413 N. Olympic Ave.; and Frontier Bank, 525 N. Olympic Ave.

Darrington: Base camp for firefighters
Darrington’s population grew by more than 500 people during the weekend as firefighters and support staff from throughout the state set up base camp at the town’s community center and high school.
The firefighters were working more than 30 fires on state and federal lands near Darrington, Mayor Joyce Jones said.
A large portable kitchen was set up to make sure firefighters were well fed, she said.
Granite Falls: Vacancy on council
The city of Granite Falls is accepting applications to fill an unexpired City Council seat.
The position is being vacated by Kathy Ganung, who is moving out of state. The position is up for election in the fall; John Smith and Joshua Golston have filed to run for the seat. Applications for the vacancy are available at City Hall, 206 S. Granite Ave.

Marysville: Western sale at Goodwill
The Marysville Goodwill store is planning a sale of Western clothing and gear Aug. 14 and 15. The sale starts at 8 a.m. both days at the store, 9315 State Ave.
Items expected to be available include cowboy hats and boots; belts and buckles; and Western-themed clothing, jewelry, furniture and horse saddles.
The proceeds from the Western Days Sale supports Goodwill’s free job training and education programs, which help low-income and underserved people in the community find work.
