Kamiak seniors enjoy a bit of silliness at prom

Published 9:15 pm Monday, June 28, 2010

Imagine students getting high and silly before senior prom.

High and silly, as in jumping high off the ground for a fabulous photograph. Mukilteo students at Kamiak High School were excited to be going to the recent dance so they jumped for joy and utter silliness.

Thanks to Scott “Swede” Anderson, for sending us this picture that was snapped by Don Matson. They both had students going to the prom, but Peter Matson didn’t make this shot, which features Sean Thomas Anderson, Jamie Koho, Scott Smith, Kristina Stewart, Jake Dahlberg and Karly Porterfield.

Anderson says he wasn’t there for the photo shoot, but says he thinks jumping and acting goofy is a common high-school prom stunt.

They say “It’s Hip to Skinny Dip.”

Actually, at Lake Bronson Club Family Nudist Park in Sultan, it’s hip to be nude all the time. For a special event, they are inviting non-regulars to participate in a nationwide attempt to set a Guinness World Record Skinny Dip.

It’s planned for 3 p.m. July 10. For more information, call 360-793-0286 or seach for Lake Bronson on the Web.

Lake Bronson Club is hosting the event. Last year, the event took place at 139 locations with 13,674 skinny dippers representing the American Association for Nude Recreation. The American Association for Nude Recreation is all about taking “nakations” this summer.

For more information, call 800-TRY-NUDE.

Efforts will be made in Sultan to make first-time skinny dippers, who will get into a lake with no clothes on, comfortable, says Ron Abeel from Sultan.

As with all Guinness records, events to set records must be verified by a designated “member in standing” who may or may not be dressed.

This could be the perfect old-fashioned Fourth of July.

On Sunday, folks can picnic and visit with neighbors at Gold Bar Elementary School, 419 Lewis Ave. in Gold Bar.

Music begins at 2 p.m. and The Monroe Community Concert Band will perform the “1812 Overture” at 3 p.m. featuring Tchaikovsky’s overture, church bells and cannon fire. The band will also play big band and kid’s music selections.

The Monroe Community Concert Band was formed in 2004 by Dave Pallo, music teacher at Sultan Middle School, and his wife, Rhonda. A grant from the Monroe Arts Council provided money for sheet music and the band grew from 12 members to 50.

For more information, go to www.monroeconcertband.org.

The band is all-volunteer and appreciates donations.
