50 YEARS AGO (1960)

Charles Thorpe, 5029 West View Drive, advanced to aviation electrician’s mate second class at the Sand Point Naval Air Station, Seattle. He also was awarded proficiency pay for knowledge in technology.

At a recent meeting of Priest Point Grange, Ruth Windsor arranged musical acts. Pomona secretary Edna Paulson and Pomona lecturer Ruby Grebe were present, along with Robert Grebe, master of Lake Stevens Grange. Paul Paulson, a county road supervisor, advised the members of the requirements for a culvert in the new parking lot.

25 YEARS AGO (1985)

The Weyerhaeuser Co. announced the permanent closure of Mill E, eliminating the possibly of reviving its last remaining Everett sawmill. Mill E had been idle since last October when the lumber market faltered. It was built in 1971 to handle small second-growth logs.

The public took its first look at the proposed master plan for Harvey Field and, for the most part, people were pleased with it. The FAA-sanctioned master plan, primarily funded by a federal gas-tax on airport users, was a requirement if the Harvey family chose to seek federal funding for development of the field.
