Look up to celebrate astronomy

Turn your eyes to the sky and celebrate International Astronomy Day today at both Everett Public Library locations and, weather permitting, Harborview Park.
The Everett Astronomical Society is sponsoring a star party from 7 to 11:30 p.m. at Harborview Park in Everett, setting up powerful telescopes for public viewing of the moon’s mountains, craters and valleys, as well as close-up views of the planets Saturn, Mars, Venus and Mercury.
View galaxies far, far away and star clusters. Visitors may bring their own telescopes or binoculars and their questions.
Harborview Park is on Mukilteo Boulevard near Glenwood Avenue.
Although rain or overcast may cancel the event at the park, weather will not be a factor for the society’s exhibits and demonstrations from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at Everett Public Library (Main library, 2702 Hoyt Ave., and the Evergreen Branch Library, 9512 Evergreen Way).
Everett Astronomical Society members will be on hand to answer questions; show live views of the prominences and sunspots on the sun; demonstrate astronomy-related telescopes, binoculars, equipment, books and software; and show astronomy videos.
All the events are free.
Go to the Everett Public Library Web site, www.epls.org, or call 425-257-8000 for more information.
