TALKING POINTS

Now that’s entertainment. There may have been moments when it wasn’t the cleanest game, but for 65 minutes plus the shootout it was white-knuckle, up-and-down action.

So much happened tonight that it would be impossible to sum it all up quickly, so I’ll give bullet points for what I thought was most significant:

– Zack Dailey was moved to right wing (his first time playing wing in five years as a Silvertip?) to play with Shane Harper and Chris Langkow and had a fantastic game. He immediately justified the move with two goals in the first four minutes, then scored the decisive goal in a seven-round shootout. The goals ended Dailey’s 26-game goalless streak.

– It would have been a comfortable Everett victory if not for Tri-City’s power play, which converted on all four of its opportunities. If the Tips could ever get their special teams sorted out they’d be a handful as they’ve outscored opponents 81-58 at even strength this season.

– Both goalies played really well, despite giving up five goals apiece. Everett’s Kent Simpson made his third straight start and was good again, so he’s making a push for the No. 1 position.

– Two Everett defensmen may have played their best games as Silvertips tonight. Great efforts by Alex Theriau and Paul Sohor. Sohor thinks he should have topped it with his first WHL goal, but it was credited to Tyler Maxwell on the tip.

TURNING POINT

I’m not sure I’d say this game turned at all. Just two teams going at it hard throughout.

HIT OF THE DAY

Early in the second period Maxwell bowled over Patrick Holland, sending Holland tumbling.

THREE STARS

First star: Dailey. Two goals, an assist and the shootout winner. Hard to top that night.

Second star: Adam Hughesman, Tri-City. A goal and two assists, he was the creative force for the Americans tonight.

Third star: Langkow. Two assists, as far as I’m concerned he was hands down the best player on the ice.

The Herald’s honorable mention: So many to choose from. I guess I’ll go with Theriau, who made some key defensive plays and skated the puck with confidence.
