The Everett Philharmonic Orchestra started its new life on a high note when it sold out tickets to its Sunday “Spring Fling” debut at Everett Events Center.
Philharmonic leaders also planned the inaugural concert season through April 16, 2011, giving an optimistic signal that classical music will live in Snohomish County.
These philharmonic members vowed in February to keep the music alive after the Everett Symphony Orchestra went idle and canceled the remainder of their season.
“There was so much support and love for what we do in that room, I was overwhelmed all night long,” said Cami Davis, the philharmonic’s operating manager said of Sunday’s event. “Everybody was saying we’re so glad you are back.”
In launching the new philharmonic, conductor Paul-Elliott Cobbs, who joins the organization as its music director, said the group will be able to operate on a shoestring budget of $100,000 for its first year, with the staff working for free.
Davis said the philharmonic will be “starting out small” but still has a full season of music planned.
All concerts will be at the Everett Civic Auditorium, 2415 Colby Ave., unless otherwise noted. The season lineup is:
“Ignite the Season”: Sept. 26. “Prelude to the Meistersinger,” Wagner; Piano Concerto No 2, Rachmaninoff; “Firebird Suite,” Stravinsky.
“Music for the Imagination Featuring ‘Peter &the Wolf’”: Nov. 28. “Light Cavalry Overture,” von Suppe; “B.B. Wolf,” Deak; “Peter &the Wolf,” Prokofiev.
“That Magnificent Mozart”: Feb. 13. First Presbyterian Church, 2936 Rockefeller Ave., Everett. “Marriage of Figaro,” Concerto for Flute &Harp, Symphony No 35.
“Toward a New World”: May 8. “Bartered Bride Overture,” Smetana; Concerto for Violin &Cello, Brahms; “New World Symphony,” Dvorak.
