BOTHELL — Bothell has tapped a veteran Renton firefighter to be the city’s new fire chief.

Bob Van Horne, who leaves Renton after 28 years at the rank of deputy fire chief, is expected to start in Bothell on Sept. 21, deputy city manager Steve Anderson said.

Van Horne takes the chief position that was vacated when Warren Burns resigned in April.

Deputy Fire Chief Rudy Alvarado served as acting chief during the search. He plans to retire once Van Horne begins, Anderson said.

The city selected Van Horne from among 37 applicants. Van Horne will oversee 54 uniformed firefighters and nine civilian employees. The salary range for fire chief ranges up to $141,048, Anderson said.
