MONROE — A car crash shut down both directions of U.S. 2 near Roosevelt Road on Sunday afternoon.

A 19-year-old Mill Creek woman was taken to Providence Hospital with serious head and internal injuries. They were not believed to be life threatening, said Sgt. Mark Francis with the Washington State Patrol.

The crash happened just before 3 p.m. A driver heading eastbound on U.S. 2 attempted to make a U-turn. An SUV that was westbound on the highway collided with the car.

Two people in the SUV had minor injuries. The driver of the other car was not injured.

“It does not appear there were any criminal charges,” Francis said. “Just was attempting a U-turn with that heavy fair traffic.”

The crash occurred a few miles from the Evergreen State Fairgrounds on the second to last day of the fair.
