EVERETT — The Arts Council of Snohomish County has received a $250,000 grant that will help build a regional center for visual arts.

The money comes from the M.J. Murdock Charitable Trust. The trust is named after Oregon-born Melvin Jack Murdock, who co-founded the Tektronix company. Since 1975, the trust has focused on grant-making efforts on social, cultural and educational causes in the Northwest.

The arts council has started on $6 million capital campaign to build a regional center for visual arts in downtown Everett. When completed in late 2010, the center is expected to be a gathering place where people come to take classes. So far, the arts council has raised $4.6 million for the project.
