Chatting with Seth Jones

I just got off the phone with Silvertips draft pick Seth Jones and his mother, Amy. Everett selected the Dallas resident and son of former NBA player Popeye Jones 11th overall in this year’s bantam draft and, of course, drafting the slick defenseman was considered a gamble as Jones has not yet committed himself to the WHL.
Well, there was no earth-shattering announcement today regarding Jones’ future. He and his family are still weighing all the options. However, both Seth and Amy said they were happy it was Everett that drafted Jones. It sounds like the Tips spent the most time among WHL franchises courting Jones and his family prior to the draft. If nothing else it was enough to convince the Joneses to check it out as they’re scheduled to visit Everett later this month.
For anyone who’s curious, Jones will be playing midget hockey in Denver next season, suiting up for the same Colorado Thunderbirds program that produced current Tip Ryan White and Everett draft pick Josh Racek.
