School winners

Washington Scholar
Tyler J. Gjersee has been named a Washington Scholar for 2009 by the Washington Higher Education Coordinating Board.
Tyler is a student at Arlington High School and has maintained a 4.0 grade point average since seventh grade. He is a member of the National Honor Society, the Hi-Q team captain, and Knowledge Bowl team member.
Tyler is involved with wind ensemble, Jazz On-Hold, pep band and marching band. He volunteers as a math and German tutor and has played on the AHS tennis team during four years of high school.
Tyler has been accepted to the University of Washington and is deciding whether to major in chemistry or chemical engineering.
Good citizens
Carmen Small and Adam Lott received the Utsalady Elementary Citizenship Award for the week of March 16. Students are given this award by recess staff, homeroom teachers and specialists.
Utsalady Eagles have the responsibility to be respectful and cheerful, to lend a helping hand when needed, have a positive attitude, to follow recess and school rules, and to be good leaders for their peers.
Mariah Mueller, Katie Lamb, Kaelea Taylor and Allie McNutt were chosen as Utsalady’s Color Guard for the week.
Students who are selected for this honor must be a good citizen, follow school rules and complete classroom assignments on time. The students are responsible for raising and lowering the flag each day before and after school.
Double major
Senior Zachary Quinlan of Everett is working on two majors at Lafayette College in Easton, Penn.
Quinlan is a 2005 graduate of Everett High School, and the son of John Quinlan of Everett and Mary Quinlan of Stanwood.
Zachary Quinlan has a double major in physics and philosophy.
