Arlington

Donate gifts for giving tree at care center

High school senior Kelsey Nielsen is running a giving tree for the residents at Regency Care Center in Arlington as part of her senior project at school.

The tree is at Arlington Hardware, 215 N. Olympic Ave.

Those who want to participate can pick a name off the tree and then buy a gift from that person’s wish list. Unwrapped gifts can be returned to Arlington Hardware or to Weston High School, along 172nd in the Smokey Point neighborhood. Gifts need to be donated by Friday.

Gallery seeks local artists to show work

Harman Eye Clinic is seeking local artists interested in hanging their work in the office’s gallery at 903 Medical Center Drive in Arlington during January and February.

Those who wish to participate should send photos of their work in jpeg format to twentybetter@ aol.com, along with title, artist, year created, size, medium and contact information. Deadline is Dec. 29.

Hearing to discuss land-use changes

Island County Planning Commission is scheduled to hear from the public regarding land use changes along Highway 532 on Camano Island.

Lions Club selling Christmas trees

The Granite Falls Lions Club plans to sell Christmas trees Saturday and Sunday.

The sale is 9 a.m. to dusk each day at 7720 Highway 92.

Children’s theater staging play at library

A children’s theater group is putting on a production of “The Emperor’s New Clothes” Dec. 29 at the Granite Falls Library.

The event is scheduled for 1 p.m. at the library, 815 E. Galena St.

The Last Leaf Production Children’s Theatre version of the play features colorful costumes. The free event is for both children and adults.

Marysville

Annual Christmas bird count begins Saturday

The Pilchuck Audubon Society plans its annual Christmas Bird Count in north Snohomish County on Saturday.

Many volunteers are needed to help give an accurate count of birds in the county.

The south county bird count is scheduled for Dec. 27.

The Winter 2008-09 Marysville Parks and Recreation Activities Guide is available online and is scheduled to be sent to homes soon.

The guide contains information on classes and other events offered through the city’s parks and recreation department, as well as general city news and information about upcoming special events.

Stanwood

City continues holiday donation drive

Stanwood city officials urge residents who can help others to participate in the city’s holiday donation drive at City Hall.

Those who want to participate can donate new, unwrapped clothing and toys for children, items for the food bank, money to help low-income families pay their city utility bills or money to the Marlece Duncan Memorial Shoe Fund, which provides shoes for children in the Stanwood-Camano School District.

Blue Christmas service aids those grieving

On Sunday, the longest night of the year, Stanwood United Methodist Church plans to offer its annual Blue Christmas worship service for those experiencing grief over the loss of a loved one, a family crisis, health problems or economic issues.

The service begins at 7 p.m. at the church, 27128-102 Drive NW, Stanwood.

Warm Beach

Voices of the Village to sing at Warm Beach

Voices of the Village of Arlington is scheduled to perform at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 27 at the Warm Beach Lights of Christmas, 20800 Marine Drive.

The group includes developmentally disabled young adults from Village Community Services. Voices of the Village has received financial help from the state Arts Commission and the National Endowment for the Arts.

Voices of the Village also is set to perform at 5 p.m. Saturday at Zippy’s Java Lounge, 1801 Hewitt Ave., Everett. The group also offers a jam session from 1 to 3 p.m. Fridays, including Dec. 26 and Jan. 2, at Arlington United Church, Fourth and McLeod streets, Arlington.
