Fountain breaks US record in heptathlon hurdles

EUGENE, Ore. — Hyleas Fountain has broken Jackie Joyner-Kersee’s decade-old U.S. record in the heptathlon 100-meter hurdles, clocking 12.65 seconds Friday in the first event at the country’s Olympic track and field trials.
Fountain eclipsed Joyner-Kersee’s mark of 12.69, set in 1998.
She also bested Joyner-Kersee’s Olympic trials record of 12.71 from 1988, and Joyner-Kersee’s U.S. national championship record of 12.77 from 1991.
Fountain is a two-time U.S. champion in the heptathlon.
