MONROE — Candidates for three state legislative seats are holding fundraisers in the coming week.
Democrat Fred Walser of Monroe will launch his bid for a state Senate seat with an event starting at 6 p.m. Monday at Alfy’s Pizza off U.S. 2 in Monroe.
Snohomish County Sheriff John Lovick, a former state lawmaker, will be the emcee.
Walser, a retired Washington State Patrol trooper and former Sultan police chief, is challenging incumbent Sen. Val Stevens, R-Arlington, in the 39th District.
May 1, Rep. Liz Loomis, D-Snohomish, will launch a campaign to retain her seat in the 44th District. Loomis will gather with supporters from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Angel Arms Works, 230 Ave. B, Snohomish.
Loomis, a former mayor of Snohomish, was appointed to her position in January. She faces a challenge from Republican Mike Hope.
And on May 3, Democrat Tim Knue will rally with backers at the Farmhouse Restaurant west of Mount Vernon. The event begins at 2 p.m. and is set to last most of the afternoon. The restaurant is located at the junction of Highway 20 and LaConner-Whitney Road.
Knue is challenging Rep. Norma Smith, R-Clinton, in the 10th District.
