50 years ago (1957)

Everett Local No. 351 of the Firefighters Union gave Deaconess Children’s Home an opportunity to really toast Christmas this year. The union presented Willard Stone, superintendent of the home, four electric toasters. The firemen also presented Don Moe, superintendent of Parkland Lutheran Children’s Home, a check to be spent on Christmas at the facility.

Those interested in stocks could see the current price on the New York Stock Exchange by visiting the offices of Dean Witter and Co. The investment brokers had recently opened enlarged offices at 1603 Hewitt Ave. Rita Verbrugge maintained a board with the current status of about 250 companies.

25 years ago (1982)

John “Terry” Lewis would serve next year as president of the Everett Rotary club. He moved up from vice president and succeeded Henry Newton. Everett Kiwanis Club recently presented a $250 check to the Stop Abuse organization. The money came from the club’s recent pancake feed.

Earning a promotion in the Air Force to the rank of sergeant was Joseph Shelley of Snohomish, who was administration specialist at Carswell AFB, Texas.
