Back to camp: Has been a fixture at Camp Killoqua near Stanwood every summer for years. Mom’s a nurse there. Whether as a camper or a staff member, Marianna’s just happy to be there. “It’s so beautiful being out the in the woods. I love being out in nature.”
Plans for the future: Attend Shoreline Community College in the fall and study musical performance, then transfer to a four-year university, perhaps Indiana University, with the eventual goal of teaching drama and vocal music.
Love of the stage: Has been involved in theater and dance since age 2, including performing in solo song and dance competitions since age 4. Has performed in 24 school and community productions; favorites include “Alice in Wonderland,” “Annie,” “Narnia” and “Little Shop of Horrors.”
Stage thoughts: “I love being out on stage and being able to show people what I can do. That’s my God-given talent, to sing, so I really like to do it.”
Sticking it out: Took physics her senior year, although math and science were not her strengths. “I made it through physics. It was hard, but it is more real now. It’s easier to understand.”
Friend to felines: Works at Purrfect Pals, a no-kill cat shelter, as a “cat socializer,” providing the animals with extra attention as they await new homes. Has two cats of her own, including Grizabella, who is named after a character in the musical “Cats.”
Stargazing: Got to go to New York with her school’s drama club during the spring. Enjoyed Broadway and got to see Julia Roberts from across the street.
Hit all the right notes: Qualified for state solo-ensemble competition after being awarded first place in the soprano solo division during a regional contest.
Big responsibility: Works as a lifeguard and swim instructor at the Everett YMCA. Was on the high school swim team for three years.
Super kid will take a summer break after July 11 and resume in September.
