Services are planned Sunday in honor of children who have died.
Trinity Lutheran Church offers a children’s memorial service at 7 p.m. at the church, 6215 196th St. SW in Lynnwood. The celebration will include candle lighting, readings, a roll call of names, prayers and communion. It is a time for parents, siblings and friends of children who have died to gather for a remembrance.
In Monroe, bring a candle in a windproof container and a warm coat for the National Children’s Memorial Day ceremony at Frank Wagner Elementary School, 115 Dickinson Road in Monroe. Part of the program will be outdoors.
Friends and families who would like a loved one’s name acknowledged should plan to arrive by 6:55 p.m. The program is sponsored by the Sky Valley Children’s Memorial Day Committee.
A service is planned for 7 p.m. at Cypress Lawn Memorial Park, 1615 SE Everett Mall Way.
Postal customers who have their holiday cards and letters ready for mailing are urged to drop them in collection boxes Sunday rather than wait until Monday.
The peak mailing day of the holiday season is expected to be Monday, when about 850 million items will be postmarked — about 185 million more than average. The busiest delivery day is expected to be Wednesday.
The U.S. Postal Service estimates it will deliver about 20 billion letters and packages between Thanksgiving and Christmas.
Local grocery stores and businesses have donated food for meals for volunteers at Christmas House, but the charity does not provide meals for its clients. Christmas House’s work is centered on providing gifts and clothing for needy families. An item in Our Towns on Page B3 Friday contained incorrect information.
