People

Jim Church and Rob Macauley have been appointed vice presidents for Everett-based Coastal Community Bank. Church, who has 18 years of mortgage lending experience, will work out of Coastal’s office in downtown Everett, where he also will be a home mortgage consultant. Macauley also will continue as a home mortgage consultant in Coastal’s Monroe branch office.

Roger Rancourt has been named a partner in the Everett accounting office of Moss Adams LLP. A leader of the office’s manufacturing and distribution industry group, Rancourt began his career in public accounting more than 12 years ago.

Victoria Dearborn and Ted Holterhoff have joined the Everett AquaSox front office as group sales associates. Dearborn, a native of Everett, plans to work toward a master’s degree in sport management. Holterhoff, who comes from Ephrata, has a bachelor’s degree in sport management. Both interned with the minor league baseball team during this year’s season.

Paul Johnson has been named chief scientific officer and senior vice president of research and development for Bothell-based Nastech Pharmaceutical Co. Formerly vice president of research and development for EpiGenX Pharmaceuticals, Johnson has extensive experience in drug development laboratories. Nastech is focusing on developing nasally inhaled forms of drugs.

Victor Haglund of Everett, Donald Wollett of Clinton and Richard Pitt of Oak Harbor recently celebrated 50 years of membership in the Washington State Bar Association. The longtime members of the lawyers organization were honored at a luncheon in Seattle.

Businesses

South Pointe Senior Living Community broke ground on its new independent living cottages at 10330 Fourth Avenue W. in Everett last week. Wilma Jo Flaherty, administrator at South Pointe, said the new cottages will give residents more independence and privacy, while still allowing them to take advantage of other facilities within the 38-unit senior community. A renovation of South Pointe’s assisted living building also is planned. South Pointe is owned by Farmington Centers Inc. of Oregon, which also owns Ashley Pointe in Lake Stevens.

Starbucks Coffee Co. has a new coffeehouse with a drive-up window at 1101 Ave. D in Snohomish’s Kla Ha Ya Village. The location, the company’s first in Snohomish, had its grand opening on Saturday. The 1,400-square-foot coffeehouse features food and indoor and outdoor seating, along with the drive-up service. It employs 20 people.

Events

"General Contractor/Construction Management" will be the topic of a meeting at 5:15 p.m. Thursday sponsored by the Puget Sound chapter of the Construction Specifications Institute. Paul Berry of the city of Seattle and Dick Owen of Lease Crutcher Lewis will talk about aspects of public works contracting. The meeting will be in the College Club in downtown Seattle. A "New Business Outreach" tax workshop hosted by the Department of Revenue is scheduled 1:30-4:30 p.m. Oct. 22 in the Everett Public Library, 2702 Hoyt Ave. The free event is designed to help new and small businesses understand how to report state taxes. "Partnerships: An Essential Component in a Challenging Environment" is the theme of the Human Services Council’s annual forum. It will be 7-10:30 a.m. Oct. 23 at the Howard Johnson Plaza Hotel, 3105 Pine St., Everett. The keynote speaker will be Bob Watt, Boeing Commercial Airplanes group vice president for government and community resources. Awards

City Floral, 2802 Colby Ave. in downtown Everett, has been recognized by FTD as a long-term member. The business, founded in 1904, has been an FTD member for 75 years, joining in 1928.

Northwest Plus Credit Union of Everett recently received several awards from the Washington Credit Union League. The credit union’s Web site won first place for institutions with $50 million to $150 million in assets. Northwest Plus employee Louise Herring won first place in the "philosophy in action" category, while Dora Maxwell won second place in the "service to the community category.
