Aerospace scholars planning Mars missions
The following local students were accepted into the competitive Washington Aerospace Scholars Summer Residency: Alexis Hepburn (Lake Stevens High School), Shannay Kammann (Kamiak High School) and Katherine Murphy of Mukilteo (Bishop Blanchet High School).
The residency includes experiences at Seattle’s Museum of Flight. Tasks include a mock human mission to Mars.
Moving it for transit
Local teens were part of a Community Transit campaign to promote riding the bus. The Mariner High School dance team performed a flashmob dance for the “Moves Like Transit” campaign. Other local schools, including the Lake Stevens High School marching band, appeared in other videos.

Lions scholarships
The Edmonds Lions Club awarded $1,000 scholarships graduating seniors Melissa Oueldescheikh and Neushyar Eslami, of Edmonds Woodway High School, and Amelia Aya Ball, of Meadowdale High School.
Kiwanis Club awards $18k in scholarships
The Lynnwood Kiwanis Club awarded $18,000 in scholarships to 12 graduating seniors in the Edmonds School District.
Receiving $1,500 scholarships: Julianna Brotman, Selina Nguyen, Thong Nguyen, Jenny Nguyen and Creesa Octavio, of Lynnwood High School; Michael DiGiovanni, Katherine Wilson and Malia Mackey, of Edmonds Woodway High School; Danielle Hirano and Daniil Oliferovskiy, of Mountlake Terrace High School; Lauren Knibbe, of Meadowdale High School; and Jennifer Perez, of Scriber Lake High School.
Edmonds Foundation awards scholarships
The Foundation for the Edmonds School District awarded $76,450 in scholarships to 46 graduating seniors and two Edmonds School District alumni.
The largest awards were Hazel and Morris Miller Scholarships of $5,000, which went to Daniil Oliferovskiy and Thu Phan, both of Mountlake Terrace High School.

Dealership scholarship
Tova Westlund, a recent graduate of Glacier Peak High School, received the $1,000 Mac Ruddell Scholarship from the Washington State Independent Auto Dealers Association. Westlund plans to attend Washington State University this fall.
Class valedictorian
Erin Leonard Reeves, of Everett, a nursing graduate, was named Saint Martin’s University’s valedictorian for the class of 2015.
Outstanding at WWU
Two of Western Washington University’s Outstanding Graduates for the class of 2015 are from Snohomish County.
Mitchel Lange, of Mukilteo, was named the Outstanding Graduate in Japanese. Lange completed an exchange program at JF Oberlin University in Tokyo. His professors were impressed with his excellent Japanese language proficiency and his ability to render a complex Japanese passage into English in an accurate, engaging style. After graduation, Lange plans to work in Tokyo. He is a graduate of Kamiak High School.
Holden Matheson, of Snohomish, was named the outstanding graduate in computer science. He graduated magna cum laude. Matheson completed a senior project with Alpha Technologies through the Corporate Alliance Program. A veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, Matheson is a graduate of Snohomish High School.
Future teachers awarded scholarships
Western Washington University student Vanessa Guzman received the Everett Teacher Education Scholarship, WCE Diversity Committee Scholarship, John Marilyn Warner Woodring College of Education Promise Scholarship and the Alumni Association Leader Scholarship for the 2015-16 academic year. Guzman is a senior at Western majoring in special education. She graduated from Lake Stevens High School in 2011.
