Celebrate: Holiday festivities underway

The Edmonds Tree Lighting Ceremony is set for 4:30-6 p.m. Saturday at Bell Street and Fifth Avenue in downtown Edmonds. Locals are invited to take photos with Santa, and enjoy cookies, cider, musical entertainment and more.

It’s the first of many community holiday celebrations in the weeks ahead, which include light displays, Santa parades, train rides, festooned boats and much more.

Nosh: Lutefisk, meatballs and lefse

The Bothell Sons of Norway’s annual Lutefisk and Meatball Dinner is set for noon-6 p.m. Dec. 3 at 23905 Bothell-Everett Highway. The meal, which is served family style, will include boiled potatoes, coleslaw, lefse and more.

No reservations are required. Cost is $25, $10 ages 5-12, and free for children younger than age 5. Checks and cash only.

Run: Race raises money for police equipment

The Edmonds Police Foundation holds a Holiday Dash 5K fun run through downtown Edmonds on Dec. 3 to raise money for a new shooting simulator, a major training tool.

Registration is available at www.edmondspolicefoundation.org. Cost is $25, $20 for youth. After today, prices go up to $35 and $30, respectively. Race-day registration starts at 8 a.m. at the Edmonds Boys and Girls Club, 310 Sixth Ave. N. The run starts at 9 a.m. at Civic Field, 310 Sixth Ave. N.

Serve: Community meal seek volunteers

Annie’s Community Kitchen is a service of Edmonds Lutheran Church that provides a free hot meal to the community 5 p.m. Wednesdays. Volunteers are needed every day of the week, but especially Wednesdays, to help with the program. The church is at 23525 84th Ave. W.

Renew: Pet license time

Mountlake Terrace offers renewable pet license tags. Although the licenses still need to be renewed each year, tags will no longer have to be changed.

Licenses are available 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays at the Mountlake Terrace Police Department, 5906 232nd St. SW. The PAWS shelter at 15305 44th Ave. W, Lynnwood, also will offer the licenses for a $3 fee. Animals taken into custody by Mountlake Terrace animal control officers are held at the shelter.

All cats or dogs, three months or older, must have and be wearing a current tag to comply with city codes. Fees range from $8.50 to $31.

Apply: Teacher chaperones to Japan

The Edmonds Sister City Commission seeks applications from teachers interested in co-leading the annual student visit to Hekinan, Japan, during the last two weeks of July 2017. Chaperones stay with a host family and travel costs are paid by the commission.

An application packet is available at www.escc.edmondswa.gov under “Exchange programs,” or at City Hall, 121 Fifth Ave. N. The deadline to apply is Jan. 13.
