Plan for fire camp: A four-day Kids Fire Camp is planned in Lynnwood starting Sept. 1. Cost is $100. Spots are limited, and scholarships are available. Kids 11 through 14 will learn about being a firefighter. They will use a fire extinguisher, climb a ladder and practice other skills.

Garden in a basket: The Camano Garden Club invites gardeners to build a hanging basket or container Thursday at Orchard’s Nursery, 10521 Highway 532 in Stanwood. The event starts at 10 a.m. People can bring their own baskets and plants or buy supplies there. Participants should bring gloves, hand trowels and lunch.
