EVERETT — A water main in the 500 block of Howarth Avenue broke Friday morning, marking the fifth time that’s happened during this week’s cold snap.

The break took place about 9:30 a.m. and cut off service to multiple homes in the Delta neighborhood. No property damage was reported.

Most of the recent breaks, including Friday’s, took place in cast iron pipes that were installed in the 1940s.

Service was restored at about 1:30 p.m.

Homes that were without service should run their water for up to 30 minutes to clear any turbidity from the lines. The water is safe to drink, even if the color is off, the city said.
