Ugandan Children’s Choir to perform in Edmonds

The Ugandan Children’s Choir, Imani Milele, performs a free concert at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Edmonds Lutheran Church, 23525 84th Ave. W.

Imani Milele is Swahili for “always believe.” A Florida-based nonprofit brings the choir on tours to raise awareness and support for at-risk and orphaned children in Uganda.

Make a planting pot in Stanwood

Hypertufa is a cement-based mixture that looks like stone when dry. The Stanwood Library hosts a workshop where participants can use the material to create personalized planting pots, 10 a.m. Saturday.

Reservations are required, since space and supplies are limited.

Those who sign up should bring gloves, and items to decorate your pot, such as old tiles, bubble wrap, broken china or old metal buttons and costume jewelry. You’ll also need some plastic to protect your car when you take it home to cure.

City cleanup is Saturday for Arlington residents

Live in Arlington city limits? Get the junk pile ready.

A spring disposal and recycling event is set for 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the 188th Street NE entrance to the Arlington Airport.

Bring your old appliances, computers, recyclable metals, furniture, debris and up to four tires (removed from wheels). Items not accepted include hazardous waste, yard debris, household garbage, documents for shredding and latex paint.

A city water and sewer bill statement is required for admittance, or a Waste Management NW bill statement for Smokey Point. A valid driver’s license with current Arlington address is accepted for those in apartments.

MEETINGS

Lieutenant governor to speak to Lions

Lt. Gov. Cyrus Habib will be the featured guest speaker at a Thursday meeting of the Everett Central Lions Club, in the PUD Auditorium, 2320 California St.

Blind since age 8, Habib is a Rhodes Scholar, attorney, legislator and Seattle University professor.

A cake social is at 7 p.m. to celebrate the club’s 97th anniversary, followed by the program with Habib at 8 p.m. The public is invited. There is a $10 suggested donation at the door to benefit the Lions Club vision program.

Stanwood Democrats meet

A meeting of Stanwood Democrats is set for 10 a.m. Saturday at the Stanwood Community and Senior Center, 7430 276th St. NW. Guest speaker is Ray Miller, who is running for Snohomish County Council. All are welcome to attend.
